Dr Maria Pawłowska

Maria Pawłowska is an expert in research management, with particular emphasis on research data management and open science. After earning her PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of Cambridge, she began a career in research administration and science policy. He has over a decade of experience in managing international, interdisciplinary research projects and in developing and implementing open science policies.

Maria has worked with European governments, NGOs, and Fortune 200 companies. She has participated in the creation of more than a dozen new centres of scientific excellence (in collaboration with the University of Oxford and CNRS, among m.in others), and was a member of the Science Europe working group that developed the “Practical Guide to the International Alignment of Research Data Management”.

Maria shared her knowledge about open science during meetings organized by the United Nations and the European Commission, among m.in others. Its work is based on the belief that modern research management – supporting openness, diversity and inclusiveness – should become the foundation of the way science is conducted.

Her achievements have been recognized by many organizations – Maria is a scholarship holder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a member of the American Academy of Achievement and a laureate of awards from the Coimbra Group, the Cambridge Philosophical Society and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Currently, Maria is involved in the implementation of open science practices in Canada and sits on the international advisory board of the EU consortium project – RAISE Science.
